Finding Links:

After downloading ALink and installing it, and configuring it, you will want to find some links.
The best place to start is a Search Engine and search for "Reciprocal Links Page" like:
Google
All the Web
Altavista
Or a reciprocal links directory like:
Link-City.com
Visit each site in the search results that would suit the topic of your site, visit the site and then copy and paste the information about each site into the program.

Once you have entered the title, link, email and the page that will link back to you, you can then press the "Email" button as shown above to send an email to the site owner to request the link and let them know you have added theirs to your list.
(You should only send an email if they request that is what you do to get a link, we wouldn't want you to spam.)
Some sites will have a form which you can fill in to create the link, simply fill that in instead.
You should then press "Add" to add the link to your links page.
Repeat the process as many times as you like.
Once you have added some links, you can use the program to automatically check and remove sites that do not link back to you.

Setting up a link request form:

Once you are off and running with ALink, you will no doubt want to use the auto import feature when other sites request that you link back to them.

To do this you will need to set up a formmail script or use a mailto: link.

Novice Users: Mailto action

This is a sample form using a "mailto:" action to send an email to you.

Email:
Name:
Site Name:
URL:
Link Back:

To place this onto your webpage, simply right click on this page and select view source from the menu.
Then search for "form action" and then copy from that line to the next line with form on it, including both of those lines.
Then paste them into one of your webpages, change the email to your email address, save it and upload it to your website.

Advanced Users: Formmail script

You will need to download a formmail script from a site like:
Matt's Script Archive

Then set it up on your webserver.

You can then copy the form at: Info Pack

You will need to change the links and email address, but other than that the form should be ok.

After filling in the form you will get a resulting email as shown below:

To get the data from the request email into the program, simply highlight the text from the email and copy it. You can then use the "Import form Data" from the "Entry" menu to bring the data into the program as shown below and then press the "Add" button to add the link to the database.

You can import multiple links at once into the program using this checklist:
1. Create a folder called "Link Requests" in your mail client.
2. Any incomming link request, drag and drop into the "Link Requests" folder.
3. When you are ready to update your links page, highlight all of the messages in your folder and save them all to the one text file.
(File -> Save As in Outlook for example)
4. Load ALink.
5. Select "Import From File" from the "Entry" menu in Alink, browse to the saved file and click "Open".
6. ALink will automatically add the new requested links.
7. You will probably want to de-duplicate the list by pressing "DeDupe" on the main screen.
